I. "A Critique of ARAB Modernism - Part 2":
                A sequel to the file in the #11-12/98 issue, in which 
Mohammad Sayyid Rasas, Gregoire Merchou, Ahmed Barqawi, and Shamseddine
al-Kilani apply the general critique to the specificities of the ARab
world. To be followed up in the #3-4/99 issue.

II. The Bombardment of Iraq:
                                The bombing which began last December is
dealt with in three
articles, one by the editor, Samah Idriss, another by Faysal Darraj, and
a third by Iraqi intellectual Majid al-Samurrai. Also, a selection of
Anglo-American Poetry on the Gulf War (1991) translated and presented by
Saadi Simawe.

III. Cultural Studies:
                        Sabri Hafez, "Between the Two Migrations"
                        Salah Fadl, "Intellectuals and
Religious/Political 
                                        Authority"

IV. Document: 
                        Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter from
Birmingham Prison,"
(translated by Aiman Haddad) the first installment in a series on
African American thought and creativity.

V. Literary Studies: 
                        Three studies are included discussing the works
of Nabil Sulayman,
Ibrahim Dargawthi, and Mansour Fahmi.  Also, Shawqi Biza`a's regular
review section, dealing this time with recent books by Mahmoud Darwish,
Huda Barakat, and Gabriella Mistral.
