Is there an Arab Market for Fine Art?; Fairouz: A Voice, a Star, a Mystery;
War Denials, Distorted History Lessons in Lebanon; and Legacies of Three
Egyptian Intellectuals Transcending Death are all featured in issue no. 27
of Al Jadid.

Issue no. 27 of Al Jadid is out. It features "Is there an Arab Market for
Fine Art?" by Charbel Dagher; and three feature essays remembering Egyptian
intellectuals: "Ali al-Rai Exits Stage: Egypt Loses the Critic Who Brought
Masterpieces into Theater," by Elie Chalala; "Fathi Ghanem: a Novelist's
Life Guided by Principles," by Suheir Mahfouz; and Lutfi al-Kholi: a Leftist
Humanist's Legacy Spans Politics, Literature," by Judith Gabriel.

In a letter from Beirut, Etel Adnan reports on "Corruption, War Denials,
Distorted History Lessons." In the Music Department, Sami Asmar writes on
"Fairouz: A Voice, a Star, a Mystery;" and the issue features an interview
with Charbel Rouhanna on rethinking the oud by Hashem Kassem.

In a travel piece Habeeb Salloum writes, "A Journey into Moorish Spain," a
feature about four cities--Granada, Seville, Toledo, and Cordoba.
