In your business meeting, it may be useful to consider the following:
to seek Liaison status with ISO/TC46/SC2, as it has developed
previous standards, is revising, existing standards, and is
developing new standards, for transliteration/transcription of Arabic
and/or Perso-Arabic script.
The advantages of being a Liaison Member of ISO/TC46/SC2 (no cost for
that organization) is that you receive relevant documents, and also
can comment on any drafts, and if necessary steer ISO/TC46/SC2 clear
of any problems - ISO/TC46/SC2 (like other ISO committees) has to
take notice of any comments submitted.
If either MELCOM INTERNATIONAL and/or THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF
MIDDLE EAST LIBRARIANS wish to become members, please contact the
Secretary or Chair of ISO/TC46/SC2: we will be having our annual
meeting in Paris the day you finish (19 and 20 May 1999) so an email
communication would be useful, after if your organization considers
it.
Contact the Secretary or Chair of ISO/TC46/SC2 for any further
information.
I look forward to hearing from you
Best regards
John Clews
