NIMR, the National Institute for Medical Research, is seeking a
temporary Assistant Librarian, to start late June/early July 1999
for 2 months (with possible extensions for longer).
Salary offered will be approx. £18,000.

The MRC National Institute for Medical Research, (NIMR)
undertakes a broad spectrum of basic medical research from
neurophysiology to molecular structure, from developmental
biology to mycobacteriology.
The Library & Information Service meets the research
information needs of NIMR staff, providing a range of journals
(printed and electronic) and information tools such as Medline,
Science Citation Index and Current Contents.
Following a recent retirement, a temporary Assistant Librarian is
needed to carry out the following duties:
Provide support for users of Medline (both OVID and PubMed
versions), of the BIDS-ISI service, BIDS-Embase service and
Current Contents. This may include assisting users with
searches, giving tutorials, and carrying out literature searches on
users' behalf.
Oversee the maintenance of ATHENS usernames
Provide support for users of Endnote, Papyrus and ProCite
Provide support for users of electronic journals
Provide support for users of other Internet information services
Handling general enquiries
Other general library duties
Assisting with maintenance of the Library Web site
Basic IT support for other Library staff
The ideal candidate would have 2-5 years' experience in an
academic medical library environment, preferably with
experience of serving research staff, and should be familiar with
services aimed at academic libraries such as BIDS, NISS,
ATHENS, OMNI etc.
