Training to Work as an Information Scientist

PACS: Physics and Astronomy Classification Scheme
     Scheme designed to classify and categorise the
     literature of physics and astronomy for materials
     such as journal subject indexes, catalogues,
     computerised databases, online journals, CD-ROM
     versions of journals, and any other collection of
     physics and astronomy resources. PACS is arranged
     hierarchically, by subdivision to four levels.
Evaluating Information Found on the Internet
     Document which outlines basic criteria for
     evaluating all forms of information, and how they
     apply to the Internet. It summarises a variety of
     ways of looking for significant information about
     an Internet resource, notably its authorship,
     publishing body, point of view or bias, referral
     to other sources, verifiability and currency.
New Search Tools for Multidisciplinary Digital Libraries

Toronto Star
     Full text news and articles, and an archive of
     back issues from Canada's largest newspaper.
Week in Europe
     Weekly round-up of political, social, and economic
     developments in the European Union. Includes
     annotated headlines linking to fuller news

     where appropriate. Also features diary dates of

Environmental Protection Agency Global Warming
     Information about global warming in 50 US states,
     summarising expected climate change. Also includes

Federal Justice Statistics Resource Center
     Offers access to the US Federal Justice Statistics
     Program (FJSP) database containing information
     about suspects and defendants processed in each
     stage of the Federal criminal justice system in a
     given year. A data dictionary identifies and
     describes the variables in the database and
     organises data according to suspects and
     defendants entering, leaving or pending a stage of
     criminal case processing.
International Narcotics Control Strategy Report 1998 Report
     Report charting policy developments for the
     international control of narcotics. Includes
     individual reports on major drug producing and
     drug transit countries, and on those involved in
     money laundering and financial crimes. Strategy
     reports from 1996 and 1997 are also available online.
International Archive of Education Data
     Project established to acquire and disseminate
     data collected by national, state, local and
     private organisations, to serve the needs of

Lost and Found Sound: A Special Radio Series For the Millennium

     history of the Smithsonian Institution.
Van Gogh Museum
     Provides details of exhibition programs, and
     displays a collection of Van Gogh's work. Includes
     sketches and studies, lesser known paintings,
     drawings, watercolours, and digitised letters

Mathematics and Art Project: Order in Space

Electronic Literature Foundation
     Provides free access to literary texts available
     in several languages and editions. Includes four

     novels of Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy.
Women Writers Project
     A collection of primarily pre-Victorian
     (1450-1850) literature written by women. Texts
