BIDS Pascal Trial Extended
--------------------------
The new bibliographic database service, BIDS Pascal, has been available on
free trial to UK and Irish Higher Education and research institutions
since 25 October. Initial demand exceeded our expectations and not all
users may have been able to gain access to the service. We have now
increased service capacity, and to ensure that everyone has a chance to
try out the service we are pleased to extend the free trial until the end
of December 1999.
Pascal is a multidisciplinary and multilingual database containing over 8
million English language bibliographical records in science, technology
and medicine from over 4,500 European journals. Most records contain
English language abstracts and the database is updated weekly. The service
contains a number of popular features found in existing BIDS services:
* Seamless linking to the ingentaJournals full text service which
contains over 2,000 scholarly journals.
* Ability to save search strategies.
* E-mailing of results with a choice of formats, including those
compatible with personal database software packages.
Features scheduled for Easter 2000 include the AutoJournals alerting
service, Z39.50 access for EndNote users, and access via telnet.
BIDS Pascal is competitively priced at 2,000 GBP per annum for a site-wide
licence allowing unlimited access. The service is fully supported by
on-line and printed documentation and training support materials.
If you are interested in taking out a subscription, you can ensure that
your users have access beyond the end of December by completing and faxing
back the accompanying commitment form, or e-mail: [log in to unmask]
Alternatively, if you have any questions, please call the BIDS Help Desk
on (01225) 826074.
