There was a small electrical fire which was extinguished by
library security officers and the fire brigade. There was
no damage to collection items or book storage areas and
indeed there was no question of any risk to them. There
will be a forensic analysis of what happened to make sure
that any necessary precautions to prevent a recurrence are
taken.
There was some misreporting of the scale of the incident
because the Fire Brigade attends in large numbers as a
matter of routine if the fire alarm sounds. This is
because of the importance of the building and its contents.
