Apologies for cross-posting
***** Update on ISI Web of Science® Service *****
This Service, funded by JISC, replaces the current ISI Service through BIDS
which terminates on 31st July, 2000.
Access to the databases will be via the ISI Web of Science Service hosted
by
the JISC appointed Service Provider, MIMAS (formerly MIDAS), at Manchester
Computing, University of Manchester, in close collaboration with Manchester
Metropolitan University (MMU) library and John Rylands University Library
of Manchester (JRULM) who will provide training and support.
Work has proceeded in many areas since the awarding of the contract on 21st
May and during the next few weeks a number of announcements will be made
concerning general information seminars and training courses for library
staff involved in training colleagues and end-users. A schedule of these
'train-trainer' courses has been agreed and will be posted imminently. More
than 530 places will be available on 19 separate courses run in 10
different locations, between end July and early September 1999.
Course materials for the above, together with a wide range of support
documentation, are currently being developed by library staff from
MMU and JRULM, with welcome input from JIBS User Group Committee.
The hardware required to run the service has been specified, agreed with
the Monitoring and Advisory Unit (MAU) and is now on order. An accelerated
delivery timescale has been agreed with the supplier Esteem/SUN.
The web site is currently under development, but the URL will be
http://wos.mimas.ac.uk/

***Important Reminders***:
1) A trial of the ISI Web of Science service (five years only) is currently
available from NISS (http://wos.niss.ac.uk) and is well worth trying out.
2) An overview document is available via the CHEST web site
(http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/isi-wos/overview.html). The purpose of the
Overview is to give details of the agreement which exists between CHEST,
ISI and the parties involved in service provision. The intention is that
you should be able to make a decision from the information provided and
associated web sites as to whether your Institution will participate.
3) The Agreement is available to Higher and Further Education Institutions
and Research Councils in the UK. The formal list together with recognised
affiliated Institutions is available at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/chestsites.html.
4) The Agreement has now been signed and orders can be placed via CHEST.
