LIBRARY ASSOCIATION UNIVERSITY COLLEGE AND RESEARCH GROUP WELSH SECTION
presents
WORKSHOPS ON TEACHING SKILLS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES STAFF
1) Thursday April 26 1999 - Planning a learning and teaching event
(University of Glamorgan)
2) Thursday May 17 1999 - Teaching methods (University of Glamorgan)
3) Thursday May 27 1999 - Reviewing learning and assessment (University of
Wales Swansea)
Many staff in library and information organisations, especially in HE, are
now required to teach as part of their job, yet many of us have had no
formal training in the skills required. These workshops will give an
introduction to some of the basic skills and will provide a firm foundation
on which participants can build further in their work. There will be no
assigments to complete during the course, though you will be able to put
what you've learned into practice straight away in your workplace.
The lead trainer for all three workshops will be Laura Shewring. Laura,
whose background is in both education and librarianship, has been closely
involved in developing the highly-regarded EduLib workshops over 3 years and
gave a very popular series of EduLib 'taster' sessions in association with
UC&R Welsh Section in 1997. Over 240 LIS staff from over two-thirds of UK HE
institutions have now participated in Edulib workshops. These workshops,
organised by UC&R Welsh Section, facilitated by EduLib-trained and
SEDA-accredited LIS teachers, offer a further opportunity for LIS
professionals in the region to enhance their skills and build confidence in
their teaching role.
All are welcome - non librarians from converged services included. While
participants may attend just one or two of the workshops, they will gain
maximum benefit from attending all three. Workshops will start at approx 10
am and finish at approx 3.30pm - more details will be supplied to those who
register.
To reserve a place please complete the form below and return it to Lis
Parcell, University of Wales Swansea [log in to unmask] as soon as
possible and no later than Fri 23 April (workshop 1), Friday 7 May (workshop
2) and Fri 21 May (workshop 3). Confirmation of acceptance will be sent out
by email where possible. If a cancellation is made less than 5 working days
before a workshop, the full fee will be charged.
The cost of these events for Library Association members is £40 per session,
£60 for non-LA members, and includes a buffet lunch, morning and afternoon
refreshments and substantial training documentation. LA MEMBERS WHO WISH TO
CLAIM THE DISCOUNT PLEASE INDICATE YOUR MEMBERSHIP NUMBER ON THE APPLICATION
FORM.
UC&R Welsh Section acknowledges the support of the Edulib project in
