Because of the cost I cancelled my standing orders for all school
examination papers and syllabuses about 8 years ago. Up to then we
had a very good collection. I did not find that PGCE students used
the papers (perhaps they are directed to now), but local teachers
came in to consult them quite regularly. I decided that as PGCE
students spend so much time in schools, they can consult papers at
their partnership school. Perhaps that is a wrong assumption, but we
have had very little, or no, demand for papers or syllabuses.
Indeed, our PGCE students use the library (and our up-to-date
school-based resource collection) less and less as they become linked
closely with their schools.
To try to obtain a discount would be excellent, but I think it would
be an uphill struggle. Nevertheless, perhaps LISE or ELG should take
the matter up at their next meetings to see what could be done.
Perhaps a joint effort is needed ? I am happy to put it on the
agenda of both bodies if there is support.
