The forwarded message below went out on another list, but it might
be of interest to you, too, not so much for the conference
announcement as for the theme.

Announcement Conference Maria Rosaria Belgiorno 28 april 1999
Programma conferenza 28 april, Maria Rosaria Belgiorno.

Data: Mercoledý 28 Aprile 1999 alle ore 16
Luogo: Sala Marconi del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche
Autori: dr.ssa M.R.Belgiorno, dr. C.Giardino
Mediterraneo". Discovery at Cyprus of the most ancient copper
workshop in
Mediterranean.

(terzo
millennio a.C.) e completezza.
europeo.

Topic: The Italian Archaeological Mission at Pyrgos/Mavroraki
(Cyprus)
during the 1998 excavation season discovered a Bronze Age
copper workshop
in the settlement area. Archaeological evidence, stratigraphic data
and
chemical analysis demonstrate that all the most important phases
of
producing copper, starting from the minerals collected in the
surrounding
territory, have been carried out in the Mavroraki workshop from the
Late
Chalcolithic period till the Middle Bronze Age. The Pyrgos
installation
with its outfit of facilities to work the metal is the most ancient found
in the Mediterranean area.
