I've been trying to find primary resource material to support the
hypothesis
that the olive oil soap industry of southern Europe and the Middle
East
took trade away from the tallow-based soap industry of England and
northern Europe during the later Middle Ages and Renaissance.
I've found
various statements to this effect in several secondary resources,
but
haven't been able to substantiate the claim through primary
information.
I've been looking for guild (aka "gild") information, shipping or
commerce
records, ANYTHING which would support this theory -- NOTHING!
Any direction or suggestions will be gladly received!
Thank you!
