My thanks to everyone who took the trouble to respond to me on this.
The short answer is that there are no censuses of manors which
would help my transatlantic correspondent. One of the problems is
the basic one of defining a manor; it is a `fluid concept'. It was
suggested that one might use the Victoria County Histories for those
counties for which cover is complete, or else such 18th century
county histories as Hasted's which contain lists of manors, but even
plotting a single county would be a big job.
