ONLINE SERVICES OFFICER (18,915 - 24,479 pounds sterling per annum)
The History Data Service (http://hds.essex.ac.uk) collects, manages, and
disseminates digital resources, which result from or support historical
research and teaching. It is located in the social science Data Archive
(http://dawww.essex.ac.uk) at the University of Essex and is the Arts and
Humanities Data Service (http://ahds.ac.uk) service provider for the
historical disciplines.
We are seeking to recruit an Online Services Officer to develop online
services and take responsibility for the maintenance of the website and
servers. Duties are likely to include specifying and developing online
services, developing user interfaces, and preparing data, documentation and
metadata for incorporation in online services and thematic special
collections. Although primarily responsible in these areas the postholder
will be expected to be flexible and to engage in other areas of the History
Data Service's work as required.
Applicants should be graduates with knowledge of internet technologies, good
programming and problem-solving skills, and an interest in history or
related disciplines. Knowledge of relational databases would be an added
advantage as would experience of graphic design and/or developing user
interfaces. Training will be provided where necessary.

Appointment to this post will be for a period of one year with good
prospects of extension, and will be on the grade 2 scale for other related
staff, 18,915 - 24,479 pounds sterling per annum.
