RAPIDS 3 PROJECT ROCKALL TROUGH AREA, 1999
======================================================
POST-DOCTORAL POSITION
in the Geophysics Section, School of Cosmic Physics
Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Ireland
Applications are invited now from suitably qualified graduates in
Geophysics/Geology for a post-doctoral position in the School of
Cosmic Physics in the Institute.
The successful applicant will, preferably, have experience in
wide-angle seismic interpretation, though that is not essential.
Experience in other branches of seismology may well be relevant. It is
important that he/she be thoroughly competent in computing and in the
handling of large digital data sets.
The position is initially for two years, with the possibility of
extension, and the salary will be up to 25,000 Irish pounds per annum
(62000 DM or approx. US$ 37500), depending on the qualifications and
experience of the successful candidate.
The RAPIDS3 data acquisition will take place in 1999 in the southern
Rockall Trough area. Two ships will be used and about 100 OBSs will be
deployed three times to give approximately 300 recording stations on
profiles totalling about 1200 km. Various seismic sources will be
employed to provide a very large data set to elucidate detailed
structures in the crust and the lower lithosphere.
The overall objectives of RAPIDS3 are (a) to provide a three
dimensional constraint on crustal and broad sedimentary geometries,
and (b) to test the differential crustal stretching model which has
been developed on the basis of results from RAPIDS1 and RAPIDS2.
