NERC PhD Studentship Awards 1999
The Department of Archaeological Sciences has been awarded TWO
NERC-funded PhD studentships beginning in October 1999 to pursue
archaeological research in any of the following areas:
+ Archaeological prospection
+ Lipid analysis
+ Isotope geochemistry
Candidates should have, or expect to gain, a first or upper second class
honours degree in a relevant subject area.

A programme of PhD and MPhil research degrees is also available across a
wide range of themes including urbanisation, intensification and contact and
conflict in South and South-East Asia, Scottish Northern Isles, Roman
Empire, European Mesolithic and later prehistoric Eurasia. Other research
interests include Archaeological Chemistry and Conservation Science,
Archaeological Prospection, Scientific Dating, Environmental Archaeology,
Biological Anthropology (especially Palaeopathology), Forensic
Anthropology & Archaeology and the study of technological processes and
artefact use (especially ceramics, lithics & metals).
