International Association of Geodesy
As you will be no doubt aware Professor Alan Dodson was elected as
the President of Section I (Positioning) of the International Association
of Geodesy, at the recent General Assembly of the IUGG in
Birmingham. For the four year period leading up to the General
Assembly in Birmingham Alan Dodson was the National Correspondent
to the IAG. Alan has stated that he does not really wish to occupy both
posts at once, and therefore the latter position has now become vacant.
There does not appear to be any formal means of electing a IAG
National Correspondent, and in discussion with Alan it was decided
that the most appropriate method would for the Chair of the Geodesy
Group of the BGA (currently myself) to oversee this appointment, and
to use this email discussion group as the method of communication.
I therefore formally invite nominations for the position of United
Kingdom National Correspondent to the IAG, to be received by email
(to [log in to unmask]), by 31 October 1999. Please ensure
that nomination is only made with the expressed agreement of the
nominee. If more than one nomination is received an election will be
held, via email.
The UK is also entitled to appoint a member to each of the commissions:
Commission XIII: International Gravity and Geoid Commission
Commission V: Earth Tides
Commission XIV: Crustal Deformation Commission
Commission VIII: International Coordination of Space Techniques for
Geodesy and Geodynamics
Commission X: Global and Regional Geodetic Networks
I therefore invite volunteers / nominations for national representatives
to each of these commissions. Again, an election will be held if found
necessary. This is somewhat more urgent and I would like to complete
the appointments by 15 October, and so would need to receive
nominations (or names of volunteers) by the end of this week.
Regards
Terry
