Innovative techniques for flood investigation: The Galway Experience
This meeting will describe work carried out as part of a large
project that investigated the cause of recent flooding in the Galway region
of Ireland. A number of innovative techniques will be described including:
rainfall simulation modelling (including an investigation of climate
change); hybrid rainfall-runoff modelling; hydrogeological investigations
including tracer studies; and karst groundwater flow modelling using a pipe
flow model.
The meeting will take the form of a series of short talks followed
by discussion.
Introduction - Denis Peach, Head of Hydrogeology, BGS
Rainfall simulation modelling - Richard Chandler, Statistics
Department, UCL
Rainfall-runoff modelling - Matthew Lees, Dept. of Civil and
Environmental Engineering, IC
Hydrogeology - Sally Watson, Jackson Environment Institute, UCL
Hydrogeological Modelling - Denis Peach, Head of Hydrogeology, BGS
