Hello all.
A problem we face in setting up a mailing list for FISHEN is getting
together a large enough number of subscribers to
a) reach the people that need to know about what we are doing, and
b) generate useful discussion.
To do this I've been thinking that we need to 'launch' the list in an
exciting and attractive way, and I'd welcome any thoughts current list
members may have. Off the top of my head I'm thinking we need to...
* Announce the list on existing relevant mailing lists (britarch,
ads-all, gis-arch, ind-arch - any other suggestions?)
* Make available downloadable files to support the discussion (ie the
MIDAS standard, current INSCRIPTION lists where possible - there are
some copyright issues here that I am investigating)
* Choose a topic or two with fairly wide appeal draw the punters in (I'm
thinking in particular about the Archaeological Period list definitions)
In effect, a bit like setting up a conference, but without the need to
book anywhere! Any other ideas?
As regards timing, maybe the middle of Summer isn't the best time. I
suggest either late August, or perhaps easly September for the launch.
By this time colleagues at EH should have MIDAS and the EH thesauri
available online, and the web site (courtesy of the mda) should also be
ready.
What do you think?
