OOPS-128- Why use an Object Database for Java Development?
Dave Winstone, ODI
Venue- IBM Centre South Bank, 76 Upper Ground, London SE1, next to the
National
Theatre and The London Television Centre.

Admission Free - No pre-registration required
Synopsis-
The presentation will start by positioning what an Object Database is and
how ODBs
have developed. We will then compare Object Databases to Relational
Databases, by
looking at their storage models, and their process architectures.
We will then work through a short example using Java to read and write to
Object
Design's ObjectStore Database Management System. The example will cover
Transactions, Object Persistence, Navigation, Collections and Queries.
The purpose of the presentation is to provide an understanding of the
architecture of
an Object Database and why an ODB would be used when developing a Java
Application.
Dave Winstone is a Systems Engineer with Object Design (UK). His role is
to
educate people as to what Object Databases are, and how they could be
used in
specific environments. Previously, he worked for SELECT Software as
pre-sales for
their Object Oriented Modeling Tool, having come from a programming
environment
using C++, Delphi, VB and relational databases in a software house.
