This is a known problem with WinBugs. Check the Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ) at the WinBUGS website under:
"Why does WinBUGS just hang without updating after compiling? "
I have experienced similar problems with more than one type of model.
Andrew Thomas ([log in to unmask]) and David Spiegelhalter
([log in to unmask]) are investigating the problem.
Hopefully the next version of WinBUGS will be less error prone.

Subject: Have you ever experienced system clashes while runing WinBUG

Hi,
I am wondering if any of you have experienced some memory problem while
running WinBUGS.
While updating ater some burn-ins, my system stopped before finishing the
work and not responded.
I tried several times with my PC (Pentium 200 with 64M RAM and not enough
amount of free hard space (150 MB)) and others. I need about 10000 updates
but the updating procedure failed at about 4000 iterations.
I am wondering what the source of the problem is: Bugs of WinBUGS? or
the lack of the system resource? or my code has some bugs? The dat I used
has 1600 observations and the number of nodes in my code are above 100.
If you have some experience on this and give me some advice, I would
appreciate you very very much.
Thanks in advance
Jaihak Chung
