Hiya!

You may have seen some of the coverage of Jubilee 2000 Coalition's
campaign for thrid world debt relief. I have received this in a
roundabout 
way via Friends of the Earth. Please read it and act!!!

The Prime Minister and the Chancellor have told Comic Relief that if
they can prove that enough people want Third World debt cancelled,
they will act. 

The Jubilee 2000 Coalition has pushed the World's richest nations into

accepting the principle of debt relief for developing nations. And Mr 
Blair, Mr Clinton and their colleagues in the G8 group of world
leaders 
have cancelled some of the debts. But they have not written off the 
unpayable, crippling debts. For every £1 Britain gives in foreign aid,

it gets back £9 in debt payments. Cancelling some debts does not
change 
this.

Third world debt keeps developing nations on their knees and forces 
people to exploit their natural resources - for instance, minerals
or rainforests - just to pay back the interest on loans taken out by 
their leaders. It means the world's poorest people go without the 
basics - food, healthcare, sanitation, education - as a result of 
which over seven million children will die this year.

There is no prospect of these debts ever being fully re-paid and in
the 
meantime, the problems they cause just get worse. And having these
debts 
does Briatin and the other wealthier nations no financial good either.


Let's fix the problem now...
