Colleagues
I have spoken to the DfEE about the leaflets "Getting Financial Help as a
Student"; my supply of these (100) arrived only today. I have explained to
Elaine Cameron that many universities will have already sent out the joining
instructions to new undergraduates, and that the leaflets have therefore
arrived too late. I have also grumbled that this duplicates a leaflet sent
out by UCAS. She accepts these points, and apologises for the timing and
lack of notice. She also agreed with my suggestion that we should send the
leaflets out to Clearing entrants and if possible to those going to their
insurance university.
I also made the point that the supply was inadequate (to say the least); but
supplies are available from the freephone number in the accompanying note.
The first I knew of the existance of the leaflet was when a colleague sent
me one at the end of last week; the DfEE Student Support Design Group was
not involved or consulted.
