A while back a recruitment agency asked us to verify a parchment that
had aroused their suspicions. It had been altered in respect of the
name and the date. We were unable to ascertain the original owner of
the parchment because they were not numbered in those days. I
advised the agency to report the matter to the police (as they were
the aggrieved in the attempted deception and we were merely the main
witness), but they declined to do so because they considered that any
publicity would be more likely to be adverse than favourable.

We use "with second class honours, lower division".
Currently our parchments are produced by De La Rue to our
specification and design. They incorporate a number of security
printing features that make alterations difficult to achieve and easy
to detect. It's possibly worth bearing in mind that the ink on Laser
jet documents can be easily lifted off using adhesive tape, so
parchments should at least rule out this simplest of forgeries.
