Research Studentships for October 1999
The Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick is pleased
to announce that there will be up to five studentships available for
research students starting in October 1999. These awards will provide
full support for UK and EU students (at current EPSRC rates) or,
exceptionally, part support for students from outside the UK. The
awards will be available for three years, subject to satisfactory
progress. In appropriate cases these studentships can also provide
guaranteed underwriting for applications for EPSRC and other awards.
The studentships will be awarded by competition amongst the
applications received for admission as PhD students for October 1999.
Applicants apply to the University of Warwick Graduate School in the
normal way - there is no separate application procedure. There is no
formal closing date, but it is expected that at least a half of the
grants will be allocated by the end of April 1999. Early applications
are welcome.
This "grade five" department is very active in research, and we
currently have a dozen research students plus a similar number of
postdoctoral research assistants. Our research interests cover a
range of theoretical and applied topics in statistics, probability and
financial mathematics. The Department is also heavily involved in
applications and collaborative research through the Warwick Risk
Initiative and Statistical Consultancy Unit, providing opportunities
for interested students to undertake paid consultancy work alongside
their main academic studies. Paid undergraduate tutorial work is also
available.
