POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP IN STATISTICS
A PhD scholarship is available in the Department of Statistics
at the University of Auckland. Subject to approval of a revised
budget by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund,
the scholarship will be available from June 1999 and provide an annual
(tax-free) support of NZ $ 15,000 for a full-time PhD student
for three years. Further financial support can be obtained through
Teaching Assistant work and part-time temporary tutorships
in the Department of Statistics.
The international research group, comprised of researchers from the
University of Auckland and the University of Montreal, will investigate
new Bayesian semiparametric approaches to the analysis of survival data.
Our research is driven by concrete applications, specifically the need
to develop sophisticated statistical methods to analyse longitudinal
survival data in clinical trials. Model assessment, sensitivity analysis,
and model selection are topics to be integrated into a fully Bayesian
framework.
We envisage a strong applied-methodological collaboration between the
Controlled Clinical Trials Research Unit in the Department of Medicine
and the Department of Statistics.
Please send your CV and the names, addresses, phone/fax numbers, and
email addresses of two referees to the address below. Please
