STATISTICS - AN EXPANDING ROLE
GLAXO WELLCOME
New Graduate Statisticians
West London
Glaxo Wellcome is the UK's leading pharmaceutical company and a world leader
in the pharmaceutical industry. Through high quality research, we discover
effective new medicines for common serious diseases. The company invests
more than 1 billion pounds each year in research and has more than 50
ongoing major research projects. Following a review of the contribution
made by statisticians to the development of the companies products, a
decision has been made to expand the statistics function by 10% during 1999.
The Statistics Function in Medical Data Sciences includes statisticians
working in all Clinical Phases. New statisticians are being sought to work
with Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Research with responsibility for the
design and analysis of Glaxo Wellcome's major clinical trials. The evidence
from these trials forms a key part of marketing applications worldwide and
allows the company to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of its drugs
to patients and prescribers, as well as their value to governments and
insurers.

projects, as well as developing new methodology for research-based projects.

of developability, and contribute to the validation of the use of biological
markers or surrogates.
Clinical Research
We have new posts in several therapeutic areas. Working in international
clinical teams, you will be able to use your

use; plan statistical activities to meet challenging targets; analyse and
report clinical trials; prepare regulatory submissions and interact with
regulatory authorities; demonstrate the value of new medicines using
clinical trial data as well as data from observational and other studies and
databases. You will also contribute to external presentations and papers for
publication.
The successful candidates will have a first degree in mathematics or

as the source of statistical expertise in multi-disciplinary medical project
teams. You need to be committed, pro-active and innovative when identifying
new opportunities and keenly aware of business demands.
In return you will join a company which can offer great challenges and
