Bayesian nonparametric modelling for spatial data
Imperial College, London
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship under the supervision
of Dr David Denison at the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College,
London to start on 1/10/99 or soon thereafter.
Spatial data analysis is an important area of statistics. It concerns
the modelling of many physical processes such as wind, rain or even
pollution. Also there are many examples in medicine for which it
is required, most notably assessing disease risk over a region of
interest.
The aim of this project is to develop novel models for analysing
spatial data. We shall adopt a Bayesian approach, which allows us
to utilise prior knowledge when setting up these models. In recent
times much interest has focussed on these methods due to their
predictive power and the ease with which they allow
assessment of variability.
Note that, along with the usual studentship bursary,
there are funds available to attend
an overseas conference and for computing equipment.
