Not quite central to the list, perhaps, but I'd appreciate people's opinions.
I and some colleagues collect data on a number of "individuals" each
year (small number of years so far); for each individual there is a
substantial number of mostly quantitative "readings" each year; it
won't surprise you to learn that these readings are grouped into what
I'll call "aspects".
So far we have used EXCEL, because we wanted to use the formula
possibilities (maxima over individuals, average over some readings
for each individual, etc), and it works well within a year. But the time series
(non-technical sense) aspect including updating is less easily handled this way.
ACCESS works fine as a database pure and simple, but doesn't to me
seem well adapted to the formula side, though I don't know it well.
Any suggestions/comments gratefully received.
