STATISTICIANS
Salary range £11,642 - £20,102, pay award pending

It's an exciting time to join the Health Service in Scotland. Demand for
information is increasing as clinical staff make growing use of data to
inform decisions and reshape the service; there's an increased emphasis on
public health and supporting the new Scottish Parliament.
The Information and Statistics Division (ISD) of the Common Services Agency
collects, validates, interprets and disseminates information in the National
Health Service in Scotland, providing support and advice to the Scottish
Executive, Health Boards and NHS Trusts and to a variety of professional
bodies and researchers.
Over 2-3 years you will work on all aspects of Health Service Information:
* analysing - from simple tabulation to survival analysis and
mathematical modelling
* interpreting - understanding results and what they mean to the user
* assessing - data definitions, quality and fitness for purpose
* publishing - either conventionally or on the Internet or NHS Net
You need to be flexible, a well-motivated self starter with good
communications skills. Higher starting may be paid to those with
post-graduate qualifications in medical statistics, epidemiology, public
health etc. Prospectus for advancement to senior posts are good but
promotion will only come as a result of hard and successful work.
Posts will initially be based in Edinburgh but opportunities for secondments
to projects in health service sites throughout Scotland will be possible as
skills develop.
