In the light of the concerns raised on this, the "admin-loans" and the
"admin-lea" mailbase lists over the past few months - the focus has perhaps
now shifted to the institutions with face-to-face contact with the students.
Is it just me - or are other officers around the UK feeling increasing
embarrassment (though through no fault of our own) that 2 weeks into term,
we are still scratching our heads in certain cases, and waiting for
assessments before we can bill people.
A two-tier system seems to have developed with us billing overseas and
completely self-funding students, whilst not being able to run off the
LEA/SLC admin until we have all the information. And yet it is the
overseas and self-funders who need the leeway in paying bills usually.
It has already been pointed out by various students that this is not really
fair.
I have a stream of conerned parents ringing me with equal concerns - and we
are beginning to look like complete mugs, with nobody knowing quite what is
going on.
Rant now over.
best wishes
ian
