When I was a part time distance learning student 15 years ago, I found a
section at the end of a book from Open University Press called "A Guide
to Learning Independently" by Lorraine Marshall and Frances Rowland to
be an excellent guide to good use of language in an HE context.
According to the Blackwell's online catalogue a new edition is due out
at the end of this month but there should be a copy of earlier editions
available in any academic library or Bookshop.
(BTW Personally I don't like the term 'PC' as I feel it has been
hijacked by the 'Radical Right' in the US as a term of abuse).
