++ Internet Archaeology - Electronic Journal Award ++
Internet Archaeology has been awarded a Special Mention in the
Charlesworth Group Award for Electronic Journals 1998.
The award is given to e-journals in recognition of their overall design,
ease of use and their innovation in using the electronic medium. It is run
in conjunction with the Association of Learned and Professional Society of
Publishers, The British Library, The Electronic Libraries Programme and
the Council of Academic and Professional Publishers of the Publishers
Association.
The ceremony was held on 26 November 1998 at the British Dental
Association building in London on the occasion of the Fifth ALPSP
Publishing and the Internet Seminar. Judith Winters, the assistant editor
of Internet Archaeology, accepted the award on behalf of the journal and
gave a short presentation.
The journal was commended for its use of innovative features in issue 5,
such as the division of text into readable segments, the hypertext
bibliography and glossary and the interactive maps as found in the
Wickham-Jones and Dalland paper. The simple suite of Javascript navigation
buttons that replaced the old icons was also praised.
