Hi I'm a new joiner of the mail list, so don't be too hard on me!
Just a couple of points to add concerning isolated muscle work versus
multiple muscle recruitment.
A large percentage of my work is with cruiciate injuries. I have looked at
the subjective alterations using the Lysholm and a modified Tegner scoring
system and the objective improvements in muscle power as measured by an
isokinetic machine, leg extensions, on ACL deficient patients after a rehab
period and there was no firm correlation. Some improved subjectively but
not objectively and vice versa. This therefore justified us stopping the
use of the isokinetic test for this group of patients as at the end of the
day it depends on how the patient feels that matters.
Recently I have taken a step back with some of the reconstructed patients,
especially those with multiple ligament reconstructions, and am spending a
lot of time doing weight bearing PNF / proprioceptive work since many show
alot of instability from their trunks and hips downwards.
However my PNF skills are fairly limited so does any one know of any PNF
courses being run in the uK next year?
