Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
I am hoping that one (or some) of you might be able to answer a
question posed by one of my colleagues. This colleague is a sculptor
who has been commissioned to carve a statue (in wood) of St. David of
Wales. He wishes to portray the saint in historically accurate (or at
least plausible) garb. My question is, can any of you inform me (or
direct me to helpful sources) about Welsh clerical garb, specifically
archepiscopal dress, of circa 600? I was, alas, rather stumped. Being
constantly astonished by the tremendous erudition of the members of
this list, I thought that there might be someone out there who could
enlighted me on this vexing topic.
Many thanks.
