A few years ago I transferred a dead baby from a morgue across a county
border at the request of a doctor who had said everything had been set up
with ambulance control (it had not), the doctor came with us on the on the
trip from the hospital.
Much to my annoyance I was disciplined and told that we (the ambulance
service) are not allowed to do this and that it was the responsibility of
the coroner to undertake such movements.
I learnt a valuable lesson about taking the word of others and in particular
never to have an existing dead person in my ambulance. I will never do it
again under any circumstances. The whole affair was morbid and was not in
the best interest of my career.
