Dear Fred,
thanks very much for sending your message to the list. I had mistakenly thought the
hoax message was sent only to the lists' owners, so on Otfried's behalf I wrote
directly to the person who posted the original hoax.
The web site you gave (see above) is precisely the one that I cited in my message to
the person who sent the hoax message. I stronly urge everyone on the list -- indeed,
everyone who uses e-mail and the web! -- to visit that web site and to bookmark it,
so that it can be visited as the need may arise.
If you have any doubt whatsoever about whether 'news' about a virus is legitimate,
even after consulting the above-mentioned web page, then please write in the first
instance to Otfried and me, at [log in to unmask]
And, as you are reading this, this may be an appropriate moment to provide -- as I do
from time to time -- a reminder about various aspects of list usage. This is taken
and adapted from our introductory file, which all of you received upon joining the
list; this file is to be found at:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/italian-studies/files/introduction
********************
[It] is possible that someone might join the list with the sole purpose of sending a
message of a commercial or political or otherwise inappropriate nature, and then
leave the list immediately. Please, if any such mail should ever get sent to the
list, ignore it; do NOT send a message to that person, and do NOT send a message to
the list to note the disturbance. Be assured that the listowners will make sure the
person is removed from the list.
********************
As a general rule, if you are in the slightest doubt about 'netiquette', please let
Otfried and me know about your dilemma. In the manner of Solomon, we shall wipe away
your perplexities. :-)
Best wishes to all,
George (dashing off to give an Italian lesson!)
