Managing the enquiry service
26 January, London
As electronic access to data, information and knowledge has opened up
perceptions of 'information', factors such as strategic planning, market
testing, converged service and quality control have also forced review of
the nature of enquiry services.
This day focuses on the set up and control of effective enquiry services
based on the assumption that the management of an enquiry service is a core
activity for Learning Centres, Libraries or Information Services whether the
context be private or public sector.
How will this event help you?
It will examine the creation of policies, which ensure that technical
assessment of sources and collection building are appropriately matched by
good access tools, trained staff and evaluation procedures.
By the end of the day you will have:
* reconsidered the basis on which enquiry services are set up
* identified the component parts of enquiry service policy
* examined strategies for the implementation of such policy.
Who will benefit from attending?
Those staff who are accountable for the allocation of resources to review
and maintain an existing enquiry service or those setting up a new service.
Workshop leader: Magaret Redfern, Megalibre Associates. Margaret is an
independent trainer with extensive experience related to the education,
training and development of library and information services staff.
Contributors: Peter Griffiths, Assistant Director Communications (Head,
Information Services Group) The Home Office.
Amanda Duffy, Information Services Manager, City of Westminster.
