Dear list members,
I enclose the following request for information. Unfortunately it is
outside of my area of study - can anybody help?
Please respond off list to the address detailed at the bottom of this
message.
Many thanks:

I am currently researching how other countries purchase equipment, housing
modifications and vehicles for people with disabilities. Countries you may
have knowledge of are the UK, the USA and Ireland. Can you make any
suggestions on who I may contact? I am particulary keen to get some
contacts in Ireland.
The Health Funding Authority here in New Zealand is reviewing the way it
funds the provision of equipment, housing modifications and vehicles for
people with disabilities (known as Environmental Support Services).
To assist with this review I am researching programmes for environmental
support services in your country.
I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide to assist in
answering the following questions:
Does the state purchase the following Environmental Support Services for
people with disabilities:
Specialised equipment (assistive technology for employment, wheelchairs
etc)
Modifications to a residential property
Specially modified vehicles?
What are these programmes called?
How are these programmes accessed?
How is demand managed (wait lists/priorities etc)?
Do therapists work to an identified set of standards?
Who sets the assessment standards?
How is the quality of assessments monitored?
How is the quality of the purchased service monitored?
Do different programmes operate in other states or areas of your country?
If so, who can I contact for information on these programmes?
Can you suggest other individuals or organisations that I can contact by
email to assist my research?
I look forward to your reply. Please contact me if you need clarification
of these questions or further information.
Thank you for your efforts and for any information you are able to provide.
Warm regards
Dean Severinsen
