Hello fellow cyberians!
Our library do charge for internet access and we allow the public to use the
service for free e-mail services. At the moment we have only 4 PCs for the
internet services. So in order not to let the other information seekers
wait...we have a policy that we only allow an hour for each patron...unless
of course there is no que...e-mail can be a tool for seeking information as
well...so it should not be barred...

Subject: Use of free email on Public Internet PC's
>Hello all
>
>An issue has been raised here re public using free email services such
>as HotMail on public internet PC's.
>
>If you have a charging policy for internet access, you can argue that
>users can use it how they want, within the bounds of decency, etc., and
>can use email to their hearts content, for the duration of their
>session.
>
>If, like us however, your policy is not to charge, on the basis that the
>service is for access to information sources, *and* you only have a
>limited quantity of equipment, then you could consider that users using
>free email are obstructing information seekers, and effectively getting
>cheap, worldwide phone calls.
>
>If anyone has experience of this problem (or doesn't see it as a
>problem!), and has any views, and/or solutions (procedural or
>technical), then we'd love to hear from you.
>
>Many thanks
