        (les 25 et 26 novembre, a' l'Institut Culturel Italien, 50 rue de
                Varenne, 75007 Paris
les 27 et 28 novembre, a' l'ENS Fontenay/Saint-Cloud, 31 av. Lombart,
Fontenay-aux-Roses)


        L'enjeu de ce colloque est double. Il s'agit, d'une part, de
proce'der a' un re'examen de la pense'e de Machiavel dans sa signification
historico-politique et ses effets philosophiques, et, d'autre part, de
permettre un dialogue des interpre'tations, gra^ce a' la participation des
principaux commentateurs de Machiavel dans ce dernier quart du XXe sie'cle.
        L'intention est donc de re'ouvrir l'interrogation sur l'oeuvre de
Machiavel autour du the'me central de la Re'publique et de la Guerre. Cette
re'ouverture sera men'e dans huit directions qui fournissent en me^me temps
les articulations principales du colloque.
