If I could add another example: I was involved in a live cam conversation
(CuSeeMe), between New York and Australia. During this (prearranged) event four
or five people generated text, (clunky) sound and images. At one point during
the conversation there was an interjection from Mawson in Antarctica from where
a `lurker' had been eavesdropping but could no longer contain himself when he
realised he was seeing an old friend. All that remains of this conversation is
a print out of a single screen grab pinned to a notice board beside me. In
itself, it has little meaning, but in relation to the event it has significance
for all those involved (I guess not to the world at large).
I seems obvious to me that the use of metadata to decribe resources will lead
to an increase in `on the fly' event generation. New digital resources will
also be created as live data feeds are recombined into objects of significance.
These will be objects without analogue equivalents for which we have yet to
make words. At this stage, they are probably best described as `events'.
