WHO should advise HCFA on Reimbursement for
Biofeedback? That is the big question here.
As some of you know, I have been trying for
several months to obtain a "Position Statement"
that a nursing group sent to HCFA. They kept
saying they "sent" it, but it never arrived!
(Still hasn't!)
The "Continence Coalition" apparently submitted
a paper to HCFA this spring, but (apparently)
was rebuffed and told to get support from other
interested professions. In any case, that is
what they are now trying to do. APTA, AAPB,
ACOG, ASCRS, and several others have been asked
to "endorse" the nurses' Paper.
My concern was that without a critical eye, many
organizations would just "rubber-stamp" the
document without realizing that it actually
turns the HCFA advisory role over to "select
continence nurse specialists from the SUNA,
WOCN and ARN" organizations, who would advise
who gets paid how much for what. I may be
narrow minded, but I don't think nurses (alone)
should advise HCFA on reimbursement for physicians,
Biofeedback specialists and Physical Therapists.
What do you think?
I am in the process of preparing a
critique of the nurses' "Position Statement".
In the meantime, I have transcribed and posted
a clean copy of it on my website, at
http://www.incontinet.com/ccstate.htm
so that everyone can read it and form their
own opinions.
In a few days (or less) I will post my own
comments and suggested revisions at
http://www.incontinet.com/critcoco.htm.
