***Bart, you will have a wonderful time there in S Africa. The country is
exquisite and the people are friendly and exceptionally hospitable. Seeing
that you are from Nederland, this will enable you to have a special rapport
with the Afrikaans folk whose language evolved from Nederlands.
It is just a shame that such a wonderful land with one of the most democratic
constitutions in the world is being held to ransom by a very small percentage
of a diabolically criminal and evil element, and the Government, for reasons
known only to itself, chooses not to give crime and corruption control high
priority. Of course, the daily weakening of the currency there means that most
Westerners can have a five star vacation at very low cost!
Bart, don't waste much time in Johannesburg - I lived there all my life and
besides the hospitable folk, there is nothing of real note to do there. The
better tourist spots are on the beautiful coast ('The Garden Route') between
Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, plus the Cape Town area itself. Then the
Kruger National Park, not far from Nelspruit is a must - Oct/Nov is a warm
time of the year, so it is vital to take anti-malarial tablets before and
after going there, just in case.
Anyway, I shall not go into detail, because that is not the thrust of this
group. For more info on S Africa, you may look at the following websites:

To assist you, I have looked for ages for any conferences in Oct/Nov, but no
luck - try emailing appropriate departments at:
My former university in Johannnesburg: http://www.sportsa.co.za/
Or S African universities in general: http://www.hsrc.ac.za/univ.html
They may be able to help - for any other advice, you are most welcome to
contact me personally.
