Dear physio
Are you enjoying your summer life?
I could have summer holiday for 8 days at last.
8 days holiday belongs to the longest class in Japan.
But I have ever heard PT in U.S.(even administrator)have 1 month summer
holidays.
If PT in Japan take 1 month holidays,he will be accused of braking harmony of
his department, office, hospital, even if he can take it in legal basis.
This is odd Japanese culture.
By the way I was asked about a physical therapy of comminuted fracture of
calcaneus from an orthopedist.
His patient injured 1 week ago and has been treated conservatively
(no operation).
He wanted to know when it will be started - active exercise of M.flexor
hallucis longus,M.flexor digitorum longus,M.peroneus longus,M.peroneus brevis.
General protocol in japan is as below.
2 weeks post injury Exercise of ankle may be start.
4-6 weeks post injury walk with partial weight bearing
10-12 weeks post injury walk with full weight bearing
The problem of Fx. of calcaneus will be gait pain in weight bearing.
Orthosis will be considered in some case.
Is there any good protocol or treatment technique of comminuted Fx. of
calcaneus in your country?
Best Regards,
HIro Wood
