Dear Thiago,
My question to you is who should have the 'ownership' of massage?
Bearing in mind that the Physiotherapy profession is only a hundred years
old (in UK). Massage or 'body rubbing' has been around for good few
thousand of years in almost every cultures eg. in China / far east -
Shitasu, acupressure and Tuina are very popular. These therapists can not
be all "charlatans, fooling people and leading them to disbelief in our
profession", as you put it.
There is a saying, " you can fool somebody some of the time, you can even
fool somebody most of the time but you can't fool everybody all the time".
Different forms of massage therapies have stood the test of time, that is a
fact. Physiotherapists can't claim massage as its own and ignore other
practitioners, who may have more claims in this modality than
physiotherapists. But we, physiotherapists have other 'core skills' such as
manual therapy, electrotherapy, exercise therapy etc. to offer to our
patients than 'massage therapists' and we must not forget that.

>Dear Anja,
>In Brasil, there's no need to have a degree to use massage, that's a point
of alot of discussion back here. Many "massage >therapists" are charlatans,
fooling people, and leeding them to disbelief in our profession.
>Sincerly,
>Thiago
