M.Sc in Health Sciences
Towards a knowledge-based health care service
The UK health service is at the forefront of radical changes not only in the way it delivers care
but also in its recognition of the importance of securing a sound and continuing knowledge
base for health care professionals. Academic institutions such as UEA are playing an
increasingly important role through their partnership with health services in reseach and
teaching. The M.Sc in Health Sciences has developed out of this role and is part of UEAs
initiative to meet the growing educational need of health care professionals.
The M.Sc in Health Sciences is a flexible, modular course designed to meet the continuing
development needs of a wide variety of health care professionals for taught work at Masters
level. It enables students to explore advances in both theory and practice in areas that influence
successful delivery of health services. Such success depends on good team working, which
requires respect for interprofessional differences and specialist skills whilst breaking down the
barriers between professional groups.
The multidisciplinary teaching programme actively involves participants in the learning process
in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills to maximise their effectiveness - and
enjoyment - when working in health care services.
Current courses include:- Research Methods and Critical Appraisal (compulsory); Retirement
Years: Changes and Challenges; The Brain; The Hand; Health and Housing; Rehabilitation
Studies; Arthritis: A Collaborative Approach; Health and the Law; Health Economics;
Psychosocial Aspects of Health; Ethics and Decision Making .... and many others
The programme is open to those with one of the following:-
7 a degree carrying with it qualification in a health care profession, and/or
7 state registration under the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act, together with
