Panos,
Thanks for the reply; you asked -
Perhaps if you could provide information about:
- atrophy. Are the calf muscles well developed?
Quite well developed, and no sign of specific muscle atrophy.
- strength. Does he experience weakness during or after activity or
indeed whilst the tenderness and pain are present?
Weakness when pain is present, he has not noted it during workouts.
His max lifts for leg sets have slowly improved over time, despite his
post-activity pain.
- enzymes. Has he undergone any other medical investigation, such as
blood tests (for Creatine kinase or myoglobin) or even considered a
muscle biopsy?
Has not done it, and I will suggest that he does prior to any surgery,
especially given your thoughts, and that of others. He never notices
this phenomenon at times when he is exercising other muscle groups.
- response to common analgesics. Is he receiving any type of medication
and if yes which one and what is the response of his symptoms?
He has tried Feldene™ and other NSAIDs (Voltaren™ I think) and they
seem to make little difference to pain, no matter is his course extends
from several days before a work-out to several days after his typical
period of pain onset.
Hope this helps,
Matthew
