>Both the Greeks and the Latins have many more fathers, but I am not talking
about 'fathers'. Gary drew our attention to the cult of the four (Latin)
Doctors. I am not aware that the Greeks have any cult of the 'Doctors'.
Actually Leo did produce a very substantial body of work, including his
famous 'Tome' which acquired something of the status of a credal document,
being accepted enthusiastically by the Council of Chalcedon and having its
substance incorporated into the definition of the faith drawn up by that
council.
No doubt Tom Izbicki is right to point out that MSS of the other four
circulated more widely than those of Leo during the Middle Ages. The
question still remains, why?
