Dear John,
thanks for listing these articles of Talal Asad, whom I confess to not having read.
I've done a quick web search (via MetaGopher, at http://www.metagopher.com/), and
found useful information. In fact, you can go straight to the results by going to:
http://www.metagopher.com/nph-go.cgi?w=%22Talal+Asad%22&e=0&t=2&n=1&h=1&g=1&i=0
At his personal homepage (http://www.jhu.edu/~anthro/asad.htm) he states:
'I am interested in tracing connections between religion and power in the history of
early modern Europe, as well as the ways in which the modern category of religion
comes to be used in attempts at reforming Muslim societies in the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries. I am also interested in the way in which such reform helps to
construct the modern secular state in the Middle East, as well as in colonial India.'
There is also a list of his more recent publications there.
At http://shr.stanford.edu/shreview/5-1/text/asad.html, there is an interesting
interview with Asad.
Best wishes,
George
